This feature is disabled by default but can be enabled via a checkbox on the Devices tab in the Touchpad. When a USB mouse is plugged in a pop up message informs the user that a USB mouse has been detected and that the touchpadstick has been disabled. A red X appears over the touchpad icon in the systray when it is disabled. The touchpad has a separate configuration GUI, but still calls the mouse configuration GUI as well. It would seem to me that the core resident processes are a bit smaller and less CPU hungry than the old 5.xxx version I was running. Nice to have Also included them in the thread title for all to read. I recently had to replace my HD in my Latitude D820 and I can no longer use the Dell driver to tap the top corner of my touchpad to emulate a middle mouse click, Im hoping the older versions of the driver will revert back to before they used Dells GUI. This version seemed to be 7.5.xx; although the driver itself looked more like 7.105. Im not quite sure how this works yet. Tosh outfits an especially high proportion of its laptops with ALPS trackpads, Id imagine, because both companies are Japanese. Unfortunately, while maintaining the same installer mechanism as Synaptics trackpads, ALPS trackpads do not support multi-touch, and generally have fewer features than Synaptics trackpads. ![]() The latest version is A11, available on the Precision M4400 Windows 7 64-bit download page. ![]() I do know that I was unable to disable the Dell GUI via the registry, despite being apple to change the UseCustomGUI settings. I also know that both these drivers support Firefox out of the box, which did not use to be the case: such support used to require changing the application name from Firefox to Netscape. The Dell driver set allows setting acceleration for the pointing stick and speed for the trackpad. ![]() It seems to fix the issue of the touchpad locking up after a wake from sleep. Its for XP through Win7, and Im using it on a Dell Precision M4400 which has the same trackpadmost of the same hardware as the E6500. I personally do have the locking-up issue, but I hate Dells version, so I just deal with it and go back into standby, resume again, and I have a trackpad again. This isnt so bad since Windows 7 sleeps and resumes so quickly. They are more recent and more fully-functional than any Toshiba or Dell drivers I have found so far. Sony also uses ALPS trackpads, but drivers are harder to find on their website, and the only recent ALPS drivers seem to be multi-touch-exclusive. Also, there is a system-verification-check on all of Sonys driver packages.
